Chinese Society of Landscape Architecture (CHSLA) was formally founded in
Hangzhou city in November, 1948 with its secretariat is in Beijing. Its academic
activity started in 1978. Prof. Zhou Ganshi is current president of CHSLA, and
he is also member in Chinese Academy of Science and Chinese Academy of Engineering）. CHSLA
is a non-profit, science popularizing, national mass organization as legal natural
composed of professionals volunteering from the workers of landscape architecture
of all over the country .It is part of the Chinese Association of Science and
Technology (CAST). CHSLA aims to organize and unite the LA professionals
.It aims also to foster a devotion towards preservation of national natural, cultural
and historical resources, build eco-friendly and beautiful habitat environment,
inherit and develop the excellent tradition of Chinese landscape architecture,
absorb the advanced science, technology of all the world, establish and improve
a scientific system of LA with Chinese characteristics, raise the level of the
science and technology of the LA, promote the training of the professionals ,and
work for people's needs of fine natural environment . The subject of
the CHSLA includes traditional gardening, urban greening and landscaping, and
natural landscape planning .The profession of subject has expanded to include
history & theory of LA, preservation of historical garden, natural and cultural
heritage, planning and design of LA, garden-buildings, landscape engineering garden
plants ,zoos ,urban green space system planning ,planning of famous scenic sites
and recreation area ,natural conserves planning ,urban and rural ecosystem , human
habitat environment ,economy and management ,etc . In order to promote
the profession CHSLA is actively involved in academic exchanges, exploration of
theory, introduction of advanced LA technology, popularization of LA science &
technology, publishing journals, books and know-how, research and evaluation of
important projects, consultative services, international exchanges and collaboration,
LA exhibits, spreading LA information, and so on . CHSLA includes eight
committees, ie. ①Urban Greening Committee ;②Landscape Planning & Design Committee
;③Famous Scenic Sites Committee ;④Landscape Plants Committee ;⑤Landscape Plants
Protection Committee ;⑥Landscape Architectural Economics & Management Committee
;⑦Chrysanthemum Research Committee ;⑧Landscape Architectural Information Committee
, two branches ,①Flower and Penjing Branch ;②Landscape Construction Branch , and
one center ,China Research Center of Landscape Planning & Design. And CHSLA has
Chinese Landscape Architecture Magazine Publishing House. In addition, CHSLA publishes
two journals-- Chinese Landscape Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Garden. Honorary
